Steel City Productions was founded in June of 2000. Located
in Hollywood California, Steel City Productions is a digital video
production company using state of the art camera and editing equipment.
Paul Ballon and Brian Berkowitz left their jobs at DreamWorks- SKG
and Saturday Night Live, respectively, to start a business of their
own in digital video production. Together, they have eleven years
of experience in the film and video business.
Paul Ballon began his entertainment career working in the production
departments of several feature films and television shows. After
completing work for Fox, Disney and Touchstone Pictures, where he
worked on "Enemy of the State" and "Malcolm in the
Middle," Paul then moved on to work at DreamWorks SKG as a
post-production accountant. In addition to supervising the post-production
unit at DreamWorks SKG, Paul oversaw the budgets for numerous feature
films including, "Castaway" and "Road Trip."
It was in his role at DreamWorks SKG that Paul realized the possibility
of creating his own production company. Entreating his friend to
move from New York City to Los Angeles to be his business partner,
Paul and Brian created Steel City Productions. Paul has a business
degree from The University of Pittsburgh.
After graduating from The Ohio State University with a degree in
Sociology, Brian Berkowitz moved to New York City where he received
a certificate in film production from the New York University. For
three years Brian freelanced in New York as a production assistant
and video cameraman on various independent feature films, commercials
and music videos, which included Miramax's "Flirting with Disaster"
and Cypress Hill's "Boom Biddy Bye Bye." Shortly after,
Brian began working at NBC on the sets of "Saturday Night Live"
and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" where he acquired
three years of valuable experience in live television production.
Wanting to gain further experience in film production, Brian spent
his last two years at NBC working as a production coordinator on
the parody commercials for the SNL Film Unit. It was these experiences
that lead Brian to the role of production coordinator on the feature
film "Frequency," produced by New Line Cinema. Soon after
"Frequency" wrapped, Brian received a call from Paul and
decided to move to Los Angeles, where Steel City Productions was
formed.
Steel City Productions has produced four television pilots, three
public service announcements, several EPK's and music videos. Steel
City Productions is currently developing new concepts for television.
